At Alexandria Technical & Community College, we offer a two-year Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. This course offers a wide range of teaching experiences, such as medical surgical nursing, pediatrics, gerontology, mental health and family nursing. This course also provides students with the necessary skills to assess, diagnose, and deliver effective patient care. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and become a licensed registered nurse. In addition to the Associate degree, the college also offers a certificate program in Practical Nursing. This one-year program provides coursework in basic principles of nursing, human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and mental health. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). For those students looking for advanced education, Alexandria Technical & Community College also offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. This program offers courses such as nursing research, pathophysiology, and advanced nursing practice. Students can also choose an emphasis area in which to specialize, such as Gerontological Nursing, Women’s Health, or Leadership and Management.
