West Virginia University (WVU) offers a wide range of nursing education programs, including Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs. The nursing education programs at WVU are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The nursing faculty at WVU are highly dedicated to providing quality instruction with a focus on building students’ knowledge base as well as providing a high level of clinical expertise. The ADN program at WVU offers both a traditional and a bridge option for those who already have a diploma or an associate degree in another field. These programs provide the foundation for a successful career in nursing. Students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become competent nurses through coursework and clinical experiences in a variety of settings. They learn about patient care and management, medical ethics and legal issues, health promotion, and communication. Upon completion of the ADN program, students take the NCLEX-RN® examination and obtain licensure as a registered nurse. The BSN program at WVU is designed to build on the previous education and experience of its students while preparing them to provide safe, evidence-based care to patients. The courses combine theoretical knowledge with evidence-based practice to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to the core curriculum, students have the opportunity to choose an area of specialization, such as gerontological nursing, public health nursing, rural health nursing and nurse-midwifery. The MSN program is designed for nurses who wish to pursue advanced practice roles, such as nurse practitioner and nurse educator. The program provides educational opportunities that deepen the nurse's knowledge and clinical expertise in the chosen area of specialization. Courses provide students with the skills and techniques necessary for diagnosis and management of complex health problems, the ability to evaluate evidence and identify best practices, and the capacity to modify and customize interventions to meet the needs of individual patients. At WVU, nursing education is focused on preparing graduates to become leaders in the profession and to serve patients and communities with the highest levels of excellence. The university provides a supportive learning environment with access to the latest technology, healthcare resources, and quality faculty. With its comprehensive program offerings, WVU is committed to helping students achieve their educational and professional goals.
