About

Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) offers a wide range of nursing education opportunities to aspiring nurses looking to pursue a career in nursing. EMU is a Christian university located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and values academic excellence, faith development, and service to the community. The university offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in nursing. These programs prepare students to deliver competent and compassionate nursing care that is guided by ethical principles, scientific knowledge, and professional expertise. The Associate of Science in Nursing program provides an educational foundation for people who plan to become a registered nurse (RN). This program emphasizes liberal arts and sciences, as well as general education in health care. After completing the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and apply for licensure as an RN. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program educates future nurses to think critically and practice holistically to care for clients/patients in a diverse and ever-changing healthcare environment. This program prepares graduates for professional roles as RNs, including leadership and decision-making responsibilities. Those already holding an undergraduate degree may be interested in pursuing the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at EMU. This degree is geared toward those who want to specialize or advance their nursing career with an emphasis on nursing administration and education. Advanced nursing roles require graduate-level preparation and this degree will help RNs develop the leadership and research skills necessary to become effective managers, nurse educators, and advanced practitioners. The faculty in the nursing department at EMU are dedicated to providing students with excellent learning experiences. They create a student-centered learning environment with an emphasis on service and accountability. Through experiential and simulated learning experiences, nurses acquire the skills and knowledge needed for entry level and advanced practice roles. Students also have access to state of the art facilities such as a simulated healthcare environment in which they can practice their clinical skills. All nursing education programs at EMU are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and are recognized as meeting high standards for quality educational outcomes. Eastern Mennonite University has a strong commitment to preparing nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to provide excellent care to patients, promote healthy lifestyles, and improve the health of communities.
