Nursing education is offered at Western Texas College, providing a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for a successful career in nursing. The college offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree that requires the completion of 60 credit hours. This program prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN exam and become Registered Nurses. The curriculum of the nursing program incorporates online classes as well as traditional face-to-face classes. Students learn through lectures, laboratory work, clinical and professional experiences. The college also offers a bridge program which provides seamless transitioning from a Bachelor’s degree in another field to the AAS degree in Nursing. The bridge program consists of 30 credit hours and allows students to apply up to 30 hours of prior coursework to the nursing degree program. Aside from the classroom experience, students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to interact with patients by completing a variety of hands-on activities and working with patient simulators in the college’s Simulation Lab. At the end of their studies, students must pass the exit examination to earn their degree.
