We offer Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) programs designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in the nursing field. Our experienced faculty and staff are committed to providing a high quality educational experience for our students. In addition to classroom instruction, we also offer clinical experiences for our students in both local hospitals and clinics. The ASN program at Lamar State College-Port Arthur provides students with the skills necessary to become successful nurses. Our classes include topics on anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, nutrition, mental health, and much more. Students can also take electives in areas such as gerontology, pediatrics, and leadership. With our degree, graduates will be prepared to function as entry-level, professional nurses in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, ambulance services, home health agencies, and other health care settings. At Lamar State College-Port Arthur, we understand the importance of providing excellent clinical instruction. Our faculty members provide personalized clinical instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving. Our clinical rotations are designed to help students gain experience in real-world healthcare scenarios. For those students interested in advancing their education, we offer advanced placement into our RN to BSN program. This program enables students who have already earned an ASN to get a bachelor's degree in nursing in as little as one year.
