About

Nursing education at West Virginia Junior College-United Career Institute (WVJC-UCI) is designed to equip aspiring nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful health care professionals. With two nursing program options – Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nurse – WVJC-UCI offers a comprehensive learning experience for students looking to make a difference in their communities through the nursing field. At WVJC-UCI, the nursing curriculum focuses on both theory and practical application. Students will gain a solid foundational understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, nutrition, pharmacology, and health assessment, but will also develop clinical skills in laboratory and simulated environments. Moreover, students are taught to demonstrate expert clinical reasoning, critical decision-making skills, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities – all of which are essential components of professional nursing practice. In addition to the academic components of the nursing programs, WVJC-UCI provides students with an opportunity to participate in hands-on experiences through clinical rotations. During these rotations, students can apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, observe practicing nurses in action, and familiarize themselves with the policies and procedures of specific health care institutions. This clinical component of the program helps to prepare nursing students for the responsibilities they will face upon graduation. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Earning a passing score on this exam is required for licensure in all states. WVJC-UCI also equips graduates with career search assistance, including resume building, job interviews, and job fairs, to help them find employment after graduating from the nursing program. West Virginia Junior College-United Career Institute’s commitment to providing quality nursing education is evident in its nurse educators, student resources, and overall approach to the program. With rigorous academics, experiential learning, and personalized career assistance, WVJC-UCI prepares nursing graduates for an exciting professional future.
