Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is committed to providing excellence in nursing education. The university offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. All nursing programs are accredited by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The BSN program at WSSU provides a strong foundation for entry into the nursing profession. The program focuses on preparing students for the NCLEX-RN exam required for licensure as a registered nurse. In addition to traditional classroom teaching, the program emphasizes clinical simulation. This helps prepare students to practice in a variety of health care settings. The MSN program at WSSU enables registered nurses to take their education to the next level and specialize in a particular area of nursing. Areas of specialization include adult/gerontology, family health, neonatal, public health, and nurse educator. The program is offered in both online and on-campus formats. The DNP degree at WSSU is designed to prepare graduates to become advanced practice nurses. It takes three years to complete, and focuses on clinical practice, leadership and research. Graduates from the DNP program will be prepared to assume a role as an advanced practice nurse in a variety of healthcare settings.
