Orleans Niagara BOCES-Practical Nursing Program offers a comprehensive education program designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become successful nurses. The program has been developed to meet the highest standards for nursing education and has been accredited by the New York State Board of Nursing. The Orleans Niagara BOCES-Practical Nursing Program is a four semester course of study. The first semester includes classroom instruction and clinical experience in basic nursing principles, such as anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, nutrition, and pharmacology. The second semester focuses on more advanced topics in nursing, including leadership and management, health assessment, and pathophysiology. In the third and fourth semesters, students are exposed to a variety of clinical experiences, including labor and delivery, pediatrics, geriatrics, and mental health. Additionally, students have the opportunity to complete elective coursework in areas of specialty. In order to be admitted to the program, applicants must have completed either a high school diploma or GED, demonstrate satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses, and submit an acceptable application. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible for both the New York State RN Licensure Exam and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses.
