Southern Westchester BOCES-Practical Nursing Program offers a comprehensive educational program for aspiring nurses in the Southern Westchester region. The program equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to become highly successful and certified registered nurses (RNs) in New York State. The practical nursing curriculum is designed to provide the student with a solid foundation of theoretical concepts and clinical practice. The theoretical portion of the program consists of topics on anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, psychology and pharmacology. In addition, the program also covers areas such as medical terminology, patient care methods, health promotion, disease prevention, infection control and legal principles in professional nursing. In order to ensure that each student is adequately prepared for the real-world scenarios found in the healthcare arena, Southern Westchester BOCES-Practical Nursing Program provides hands-on experiences through laboratory courses and clinical rotations at local hospitals and medical facilities. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
