The Genesee Valley BOCES-Practical Nursing Program provides comprehensive nursing education to those wishing to become Practical Nurses. With a focus on the most up-to-date knowledge and skills, the program ensures that students are equipped with the necessary qualifications to be successful in their chosen profession. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills required for success as a Practical Nurse. This includes topics such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, pharmacology, mental health, medical terminology, patient assessment, and legal and ethical responsibilities. In addition, students gain an understanding of professional communication and patient care. The Genesee Valley BOCES-Practical Nursing Program also emphasizes hands-on learning. Clinical experiences in a wide variety of health care settings allow students to apply theory to practice and develop the skill sets needed for successful nursing practice. Clinical rotations take place throughout the program at health care agencies such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, ambulatory care centers, home health care agencies, and psychiatric centers. Through this learning experience, students gain knowledge and practical experience in providing safe and effective patient care. The Genesee Valley BOCES-Practical Nursing Program is college-based nursing education. Students acquire credits in the form of a diploma, a diploma and associate degree, or a certificate program. All programs offer a rigorous curriculum and provide a basis for continued education in the field of nursing. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the New York State Board of Nursing licensing examinations.
