Nursing education at Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) is designed to prepare graduates to be confident and qualified nurses in the healthcare field. The nursing curriculum prepares students to be able to practice in a variety of healthcare settings and roles. MCTC offers Associate of Science degrees, diplomas, and certificates for those interested in pursuing careers in nursing. The Associate of Science in Nursing at MCTC is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and prepares students for the NCLEX-RN exam to become a Registered Nurse. It emphasizes evidence-based clinical reasoning, health care reform, leadership, interprofessional collaboration and communication, as well as quality improvement. In addition, students learn about cultural competence, ethical decision making, health promotion and disease prevention. MCTC also provides prerequisites for those interested in applying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program. Students can complete the two-year Associate of Science in Nursing degree and through an articulation agreement with a partner college, students can transition seamlessly into the BSN program. This allows students to complete their Bachelor’s degree in a shorter amount of time while receiving credit for courses they already completed. MCTC has two onsite simulation laboratories that are used to prepare students to apply their nursing knowledge and skills in a safe and realistic environment. Simulation nursing scenarios allow students to gain confidence and develop their critical thinking, assessment, and communication skills. The faculty and staff of MCTC’s Department of Nursing are highly dedicated and experienced professionals who strive to provide quality and affordable education with exceptional clinical experiences. The college works hard to ensure that nursing students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes required for success in the nursing profession.
