The nursing program provides an inter-professional education that prepares graduates to be competent and competent nurses who will serve patients, families, and communities. The nursing program is designed to provide a student-centered learning environment that supports personal growth and encourages life-long learning. Here students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values required to promote, achieve, and maintain health. Both undergraduate and graduate programs provide innovative curriculum, rigorous research-based instruction, and advanced clinical practice experiences. The faculty is committed to creating an environment with high standards of professional behavior that cultivates caring and critical thinking in both patient care and faculty research. At FMO LU, students can take courses in nursing theory, ethics, leadership, and management. They also gain experience in the application of the nursing process, clinical decision making, and evidence-based practice. Simulated lab sessions and field experiences are available for freshmen and sophomores to develop their skills in providing safe, quality care. Junior and senior students participate in clinical internships at leading healthcare organizations throughout the state where they gain first-hand nursing experience. At FMO LU, students have the opportunity to pursue Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science degrees in Nursing (MSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees. The university also offers post-master’s certification programs in nurse practitioner and acute care nurse practitioner tracks.
