Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s (BSCTC) Nursing Education program is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge, skills and compassion necessary to provide quality healthcare and further their nursing career. Through a combination of classroom instruction and clinical experience, BSCTC offers an associate in applied science degree and a practical nursing diploma program. Both programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and prepare graduates to become Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). BSCTC seeks to empower students with the educational and professional preparation necessary to become successful in the field of nursing. The academic instruction begins with a comprehensive introduction to patient care, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology and nursing fundamentals. Students also receive training based on the American Nurses Association standards during supervised clinical experiences. The faculty at BSCTC consists of knowledgeable and experienced professors who are passionate about the nursing profession. They provide thorough guidance in the classroom and stay current on industry trends while bringing real-world experience into the classroom setting. The faculty members work hard to ensure that each student receives individualized instruction and support throughout the program. BSCTC offers multiple resources, such as study groups and supportive staff, to assist students with completing their program and passing the necessary certifications. The college also provides employment services and access to job opportunities through institutional and external resources. With the proper training and education, graduates can achieve their goals of helping people and advancing their nursing career.
