About

Elgin Community College (ECC) offers a wide range of nursing education programs to meet the ever-changing demands and needs of the healthcare industry. The college offers associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and certificate programs in the area of nursing. All the nursing educational programs are taught by experienced faculty members with expertise in the field. The Nursing Education program at ECC helps prepare students to work in various health care settings as Registered Nurses or Advanced Registered Nurses. The curriculum is designed to help develop competency in the areas of nursing care, patient safety and clinical outcomes. Courses such as pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, introduction to nursing practice, and health assessment are offered to help students gain the knowledge necessary to succeed in the field. The Associate Degree in Nursing prepares students for the NCLEX-RN licensing examination. Through this program, students can complete their educations in two years and start their careers as a Registered Nurse. Those who want to pursue higher levels of nursing can further their studies in areas such as pediatric nursing, gerontology, or oncology. The Bachelor's program provides extensive academic and practical training for students interested in medical care. Students will learn about the principles of nursing and medical care, legal and ethical principles, health policy, health promotion and disease prevention, while they are also provided the opportunity to specialize in a particular field through electives. The Master's program offers specializations in advanced nursing practice, health care administration, education, and clinical research. This program provides comprehensive education that enables graduates to excel in leadership roles and provide evidence-based nursing care. The Certificate program offers concentrations in particular nursing specialties such as gerontology and oncology. This program has shorter duration than the degree programs and it focuses on providing specialized knowledge and skills necessary for successful employment in a specific nursing specialty. At Elgin Community College, students receive quality education in nursing and its related fields. With the support of dedicated faculty, modern facilities and resources, ECC nursing students have the opportunity to develop the necessary competencies to become outstanding healthcare providers.
