Nursing education at Prairie State College (PSC) allows students to prepare for a career in one of the most rewarding professions available today. Students will gain an extensive knowledge of a variety of areas, such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and psychology. In addition, they will learn how to assess and provide patient care, medical ethics, and medical recordkeeping. The nursing program at PSC is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the field so that they can be successful in their future careers. The nursing program at PSC offers students a wide range of educational opportunities. Students can earn a two-year Associates degree in Nursing (ADN) or a four-year Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). Each program includes general education requirements as well as coursework in specific areas of nursing. ADN classes include Foundations of Nursing Theory, Introduction to Nursing Practice, Pathology and Microbiology, Critical Care Nursing, and Health Assessment. BSN courses cover Leadership in Nursing, Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing, and Research & Evidence-Based Practice. At PSC, experienced faculty members provide personalized instruction and guidance for each student in their program. Faculty advisors work with students to ensure they are selecting the necessary classes for their chosen track and provide support throughout the program. PSC also offers a variety of resources to aid in success, including direct access to textbooks and library materials, online educational tools, and other educational opportunities outside of coursework. The nursing program at PSC is nationally accredited and provides students with the skills and experience they need to pursue a successful career in the field.
