The University of Hartford offers a comprehensive nursing education program to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to become excellent healthcare professionals. The program offers courses in a variety of areas, including Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Nutrition, Health Assessment, and Nursing Research. At the undergraduate level, students can choose from two degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Nursing (AASN). The BSN provides students with a broad base of knowledge to practice as a generalist in any health care setting. The AASN offers students a foundation in nursing science combined with specialized education in clinical skills. Both programs provide a rigorous curriculum that combines classroom lectures and clinical experiences in hospital, community, and ambulatory settings. Courses cover topics such as the nursing process, health assessment, health promotion and safety, and communication and collaboration in professional practice. Students are also given the opportunity to enhance their experience with online and hybrid classes. In addition to the formal class instruction, students learn through a series of simulated simulation experiences, which are designed to help them build competencies in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. The simulations, along with expert mentorship, give students the practical skills they need to successfully transition into their nursing careers. The University of Hartford’s nursing education program has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) since 1976, providing assurance of its high quality education. Graduates of the program are well-prepared to enter and succeed in the nursing profession.
