Shasta College offers a variety of educational programs to help students become skilled, knowledgeable and committed to the nursing profession. The Associate Degree Nursing program provides an educational opportunity to those who already have a degree in another field, but wish to pursue a career in nursing. Students will learn the basics of patient care and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to practice as a nurse. The coursework emphasizes communication, problem-solving strategies and clinical decision-making skills. The program also provides students with skills that prepare them to pass the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). Shasta College also has a Licensed Vocational Nursing Program. This program is designed for individuals who want to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. The coursework includes topics such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical/surgical nursing and geriatric nursing. It also requires clinical experience in a real-world setting. Upon graduating from this program, graduates are eligible to take the state licensing exam and become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Shasta College also offers a Certificate in Nursing program. This program provides essential nursing education to registered nurses and prepares them to enter the workforce. It focuses on critical thinking and professional development, as well as courses that include medical/surgical nursing, pharmacology, gerontology and mental health nursing. Graduates of this program can pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or continue their education in a master's program.
