At Marshalltown Community College, students can pursue a nursing degree through the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The program is approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing, and offers both classroom learning as well as hands-on clinical experience in local healthcare settings. The program is designed to prepare students for success in the field of nursing. Coursework includes topics such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical surgical nursing, maternal/child health, and mental health nursing. With their classroom knowledge, students gain practical skills by participating in a field study course, where they observe and participate in patient care activities under the guidance of experienced nurses. Upon completion, students will be able to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse. Marshalltown Community College also offers several support services to help students succeed, including academic advisors and tutoring. There are also several organizations on campus that host events and activities to engage both current and future nursing students. BSN Pinning Ceremony is held each fall to recognize graduating nursing students, and the Nursing Student Organization hosts events throughout the year to help students connect with their peers and build camaraderie within the nursing community.
