About

Washington Adventist University (WAU) offers a comprehensive range of nursing education programs, which offer students the opportunity to gain the practical skills needed to pursue a successful nursing career. WAU’s nursing programs are tailored for those looking to start their careers in nursing and for those seeking advanced degrees in nursing. At the undergraduate level, WAU offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing and in Health Sciences & Nursing. The curriculum for both degrees includes courses on health assessment, pharmacology, clinical practice, management, and more. In addition to studying core topics, students also gain hands-on experience in a clinical area through rotations and observational experiences. The nursing program at WAU is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, meaning that graduates are prepared to take their respective licensure exams. Graduate-level students have the opportunity to earn their Master's degree in Nursing at WAU. Students can select from specialization tracks such as Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Nursing Administration/Leadership to further focus their studies. Along with courses in research, theory, and clinical practice, students undertake practicums and clinical internships to gain hands-on experience. For those looking to move into doctorate-level nursing studies, WAU offers a PhD in Nursing Practice, where students develop the skills needed for leadership roles in the field, such as those in academia or healthcare administration. With the support of faculty advisors, students can tailor the program to their own research interests, from public health to informatics. Students present their findings in a dissertation and become eligible to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing national licensing exam. No matter the program or degree level, WAU’s nursing education programs provide students with the necessary knowledge and experience needed for success in their future nursing careers.
